The story behind The Flower Box Knighton

Nestled in the market town of Knighton, Central Powys, is our lovely florist shop – The Flower Box Knighton. We are a long-established, independent business and have been creating beautiful flowers since we opened our doors over 30 years ago.

Now run by head floral designer Tanith, who proudly took over ownership of The Flower Box Knighton in early 2019. Her 2 girls also enjoy giving a helping hand when they can – truly a family business at heart!

From a young age Tanith always loved flowers and plants, pottering around in the family garden as a child. Tanith started her floristry training at 16 and fell in love with the industry. She trained at Jack on the Green Florist in Llandrindod, where working in a flower shop got her hooked and certain it was the right path for her!

Tanith went on to attend the Welsh College of Horticulture to gain her Advanced National Certificate in Floristry (ANCF). From there, at the age of 18 she opened her first shop and a few years later made the move to freelance so she could start a family. 5 years down the line, the opportunity to takeover The Flower Box Knighton came up – and the rest they say is history!

“ I love being a florist because I get to be surrounded by pretty flowers and plants almost all day, every day! As a local business we are providing flowers for people in all situations; happy or sad, we are with our customers for new arrivals, weddings, birthdays, sickness and grief.I don’t know many other industries where you can serve customers at some of the highest and lowest parts of their lives.

It may sound strange but my favourite work is funeral tributes. I think it’s a huge honour to help a family with their final gesture for a loved one and I pride myself on each of my funeral pieces being made as if they were for a member of my own family.”
